After this very odd week, I feel I must say happy Friday.
It feels that for many the past few weeks have been a bit of a slog.
It’s not her fault, but January always seems to be this way!
Emotions feel cloudy, communications are lagging and actions do not always follow through, creating larger disconnects.
When things fall through, it can either be a source of frustration or a serve as a reminder to watch our expectations.
Sometimes, plans crumbling can be a true gift: rather than getting disappointed, see if there is a light of opportunity created by the shift.
Above all, remember that softness prevails.
I was reminded of this upon waking when Joey started getting riled up about a honking horn outside our window. There’s usually some activity outside and she was doing the most in the overacting department, which took Chris and I by surprise.
Immediately we sprung into action: us half asleep, Joey barking with alarm.
Chris started tickling her, playfully rough housing in an effort to reroute her attention.
It didn’t work. She became more and more agitated, until I cried out, my voice creaky: soft! be soft!
We began stroking her ever so gently and like magic her limbs relaxed, eyes closed, breath fell into a sleepy rhythm.
An almost too perfect portrait of what soft actions can do.
With all the muddled moods out there, how can you retain your softness? With yourself, with those around you, with the circumstances?
Moving with the tides, rather than standing against the ocean.
There’s always a way for strength, but it’s all about delivery.
Here’s to you having a softly fruitful weekend.
xx
James
