I know, I missed last week and here I am with not really a fully formed newsletter but what you might call a pop in. Actually, consider this a little arm squeeze from a friend in the middle of a garden party. It’s affectionate, we both have people to talk to, canapés to find and roses to admire (is that what garden parties are?) but I’m just letting you know I’m here and I love seeing you here too.
It is NOT what I did 4ish years ago: find my freshly ex boyfriend at a dance party night, see him talking to another girl and QUICKLY WALK BY, WHILE NOT SO LIGHTLY TAPPING HIM ON THE SHOULDER. We were kind of on a break but also sort of broken up. If you couldn’t already tell, the concept of ending the relationship had taken me by surprise.
There was a disco ball and low lighting so it took him a second to figure out that it was in fact, me: A.K.A The Girl Who Was Apparently His Ex but had also somehow invited herself to drive him to SoHo House (West Hollywood) for not, not Miley Cyrus’ birthday.
Fast forward an hour and I’m sober driving three people on molly, threading past cop cars on Sunset Blvd. I was playing it cool in my brand new used Prius, being The Fun Ex only to discover a closed SoHo house.
It was in that moment I realized I was not a human but had transformed myself into a doormat. I’m pretty sure I bailed (after, I drove my ex home) because I had to be up early to take my dad to radiation treatment. You could call it a low point!
What’s happening now between us, is really a fun and cute exchange of playful eye contact when I see you at the tea sandwich table. I’m getting my third cream cheese and cucumber triangle, what are you having?
The past couple weeks have been full meditation writing mode and while I’ve attempted to synthesize my current vibe into a real dispatch, there’s a lot that can’t quite be fully arranged in a cohesive constellation of thoughts. At least, not yet.
Hopefully by mid-August, the first six meditations that I’ve been reworking from the Now is Good archive will be available to stream! And then we can all press play and walk away because even if we turn the volume all the way down those .02 cent royalties will amass.
That or you’ll listen and enjoy the pieces. I think they’re actually worth listening to with the volume on. It’ll be great.
Here’s a quick round up of ME RIGHT NOW:
(in no particular order)
Pilates
Judaism
Perception Fatigue
No Tech Sundays
Bigger Thoughts
Plus, Joey’s 2 year anniversary, or shall we say, adopt-a-versary? Is July 30th.
More than ever, more than anything, I’m fighting the summertime sadness with gratitude and finding all the ways that Now is Good.
Enjoy the rest of your garden party, I’ll see you next week.
xx
James
