Hello!
We’re entering the final phase of January. I’ve enjoyed some of the quiet that this month is famous for, as well the opportunity to tinker with my website and do a little healthy scheming while the world rouses itself.
But there have definitely been days where I have felt overtaken by the general lull, the lack of dynamics, the ongoing adjustment to whatever covid life we’re supposed to lead at the moment.
As we prepare ourselves for January 2.0 (a.k.a February) I wanted to offer a Narrative Check.
Once a storyline has begun, it’s very easy for the mind to keep the tale spinning. I’ve noticed meme-y social media accounts and creators in all forums seem to be expressing a similar ennui. The conversation has become so familiar that I have noticed myself wanting to buy into it.
Maybe this is a hot take? But at a certain point you have to wonder who is actually feeling this way and who is echoing the sentiment for the sake of saying something.
Every month is an amalgam of experiences that fall on all possible points on the emotional spectrum. Of course, January can be a bit rough because starting things off is always hard, but today is a check-point to ensure we don’t take tired narratives into the next 28 days.
Narrative Check, January Edition:
Are there any stories you’re telling yourself about yourself that are ready to be released?
Are there any external sources (news, social media) that are perpetuating a limiting narrative about this time that is no longer serving you?
Are there any relationships in which there is a narrative being shared that is dragging you down?
When you are trying to create a shift, offering a better replacement is the easiest way to make sure the new narrative sticks.
What narratives (even if they are not fully formed) can you start to focus on?
Allow yourself some space to make these adjustments, but old ingrained patterns can be recognized when we take a little time each day to actively watch your thoughts.
Here’s to a new month and a new narrative!!!
xx
