For the week of 6.28 - 7.4.21
Hello!
Today is my Great-Grandma Gloria’s birthday. She was born in 1910 and passed away in 2010. Today’s dispatch is dedicated to her.
She carried herself through life as an artist, over the years she adapted mediums, moving from acting to painting to acting to printing. She’d shuffle out to her studio every day, grasping a thin metal rail to climb the three stairs. Once inside, you were overtaken by the scent of heavy dust and fresh ink. She’d hold tracing paper in her arthritic hands, showing you various pages that would end up as a book, a kite, a collage. It felt sacred and intimidating, I wish I had been older when she was alive. Being by her at work was a feeling I’ll never forget and will probably never find again.
No matter the circumstance, she never set down her passion.
