Hello hello,
Mercury stationed direct on Tuesday and I’m already noticing a difference. After a lengthy PMS moment my period arrived on Wednesday night, as if it had just been waiting for Mercury to get out of the spotlight. Truly such a diva.
This year I’m making a conscious effort to be aware of the passing of time. That might sound like something a robot would say but I’ve gone through a lot of life working nonstop in the restaurant industry. Many holidays are just another shift, unusual only because the tables are more full and customers are less patient. Often I’ll look up around November and wonder when Easter is coming. This year is the first year I’m making my own schedule in many ways and one of the most important things for me is to know where I stand in the context of time.
In the spirit of timely awareness, I’m here to inform you:
we are almost halfway through 2021! (Day 176)
I’m feeling the need to catch my breath and take stock of the past few months. In many ways an entire lifetime can be lived in one year’s time. A moment in the middle is a must.
During periods of reflection, it’s easy to be hard on yourself and list all the things you want to change, but with the practice of non attachment let’s look at our life without employing unfairly critical labels.
Perhaps you haven’t done one single thing you set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year. That doesn’t mean you’ve been stagnant. Ideas, expectations and big picture dreams are allowed to (dare I say, should) shift. External circumstances out of you control may have changed, give yourself this opportunity to adapt with them.
Let’s begin by recognizing anything from the first six months of 2021 that we have enjoyed. This may be fulfilling goals you set consciously or unconsciously, it could be creative or work oriented projects. Perhaps it’s a personal strength that you’ve fostered over time.
Select one or two things from above, expand on what made those things stand out and what related things you’d like to see more of.
What relationships have stood out to you this year?
Are you maintaining space for yourself within all of the moving parts of your life? If you don’t feel you have enough, what adjustments need to be made to create space?
Can you identify anything that is nonessential, or perhaps was once exciting but has now become burdensome. Are you willing to change to let go of it?
What are you looking forward to seeing come to fruition in your life over the next 6 months?
What steps are you taking/will take to allow those things in?
To close, find one thing that was a pleasant surprise during this year.
Take a moment to hold gratitude for this evolution.
Thank you for joining me in this reflection! I hope this gives you a good jumping off point for the next 6 months. Something I’m deeply grateful for is this expanding circle of people who show up to read the newsletter and support this project. It means the world to me.
Okay I’m heading out before the hormonal tears enter the scene.
xx,
James
