Hello!
This dispatch is coming to you a little earlier than usual because I’m visiting a lake. I never understood lakes and rarely interfaced with them, not by choice but just because thats the way life goes sometimes.
Now I’m falling for lakes, this is my second time visiting in 6 weeks!
Last night as we drove out of LA, I took an informal temperature check on lakes in my instagram story. Turns out a lot of people love love love lakes.
This got me thinking about why they’re so majestic.
It feels like an altar of reflection. Whether the surface of the lake is still or rippling, its calming presence is unwavering. There is an element of unknown, yet its body is finite. And just through existence, it melds with the rest of the atmosphere. Slowly, over time and through many different channels. Water molecules are drawn up into the air, while the lake itself experiences an extensive life cycle of its own.
This brings me to the ritual that I’m offering up to you.
If you have something that you’d like clarity on, guidance through non-reactivity or an intention of reflection send them to me. Maybe it’s a chance to release on the summer and welcome in the upcoming Fall season.
Respond to this email (or to onteamjames@gmail.com) with a sentence or two that embodies your question for the lake. All responses will be confidential.
I’ll be here at the lake until Saturday morning.
If you’d like to email me tonight, tomorrow (Friday) or Saturday morning, I will take your lake communications down to the water before I go.
Today I asked a tree for a handful of leaves to help carry out this ceremony, so nothing will enter the water that is man made.
This ritual is really exciting to me, I hope some of you find it to be a useful form of catharsis.
Sending lots of love your way!
James
