Hello!
Today’s Meditative Journal Prompt centers around home. As a kid I always had terrible homesickness whenever my family travelled. We didn’t leave for trips very often and I still find travel to be daunting. Staying in someone else’s house, living amongst their routines, drinking their coffee in the morning, can all bring about pangs of homesickness. I often feel ridiculous because I’m 28 and it’s a very childlike emotion, but alas we must accept ourselves and this is ME.
That being said, travel makes home so much more special. It wasn’t until last year when I moved in with my boyfriend that I fully understood the potential of a healthy home.
I’m constantly exploring the ideals of space, comfort, routine and what future living spaces will be.
Today is an opportunity to reflect on our past homes, our present ones and our visions for the future. Of course we cannot predict what’s to come, but it is grounding to have an image of where we see ourselves flourishing.
What are some main memories of your childhood home?
What are things you liked about it? (feelings, layout, living companions)
What have you chosen to leave behind?
Are there patterns that stand out from the places you’ve lived since childhood?
Can you think of any details that you enjoyed about those living spaces?
How much alone time and quiet do you need to feel like yourself?
Have you had living companions? If so, what have you learned from that experience about your own preferences surrounding home.
Are there any styles of furnishing, home layouts or neighborhoods that you’ve enjoyed?
What components from past and present living environments do you wish to take to your next home?
Do you have any routines that root you in your space?
Is there something new that you’d like to incorporate?
It’s a lot to think about, so feel free to take what you need and leave the rest.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
xx
James
