Right now it is 4:14pm in Karlovy Vary, a little town in the Czech Republic. We came here for a film festival that’s showing a feature that Chris shot in the fall of 2021—a lifetime ago. Chris is half Czech and spent a semester of college in Prague, so we jumped at the chance to visit. Yesterday was a whirlwind, we had to make an emergency run to Hugo Boss a couple blocks from the hotel to find Chris black tie appropriate pants. Right after we secured the pants, we had thirty minutes to get ready before going to dinner and straight to the premiere. The vibe here ranges from club-ready to business casual, women in floor length satin printed dresses, black mesh tops over pink bras, red lipstick, navigating the rough brick streets in three inch heels. You get a handful of summer dresses, billowing cotton, bright colors, ruffed sleeves, sandals displaying brightly painted toes.
When we got to the screening, an entire red carpet was set out in front of photographers and crowds behind steel barricades lined up to see Ewan McGregor. At the last minute I volunteered to hold the bags for all the girls who were going to have their pictures taken and interviewed. I was endlessly happy to have a job— I think in the end I shepherded four stylish bags along the red carpet, so I was basically saving lives.
